CUTTING REQUIREMENTS:

• Cut garden background fabric 11" square
• Cut one each of background fabric and batting 16" square
• Cut 4 strips of narrow accent border 1" x 12"
• Cut 4 strips of wide border 2 ½" x 16"
• Cut 2 strips of binding fabric 2 ½ x 42" and piece together to make one long strip.

1. Quick-fuse appliqué pieces onto the RS of your background fabric in the following order:
   • Parasol lady: parasol, neck, kimono, sash, right sleeve, right hand, left collar (don’t fuse top of collar until left sleeve is in lace), right collar, parasol handle, left inner cuff, left hand, left cuff, left sleeve (now fuse collar in place), face, lips, right side of hair ornament, hair, left side of hair ornament.
   • Coral lady: neck, kimono, left sleeve (don’t fuse bottom of sleeve until sash is in place), left collar, right collar, sash, (now fuse sleeve), face, lips, hair, hair ornaments).
2. When everything is in place, fuse completely.
3. Using 1 strand of black embroidery floss, make 1 long stitch for each lady’s nose.
4. With black thread, machine stitch parasol ribs with a close but narrow zigzag stitch. Machine stitch around all other appliqué pieces using matching thread colors. Machine stitch eyes and eyebrows using black thread and a very narrow satin stitch.
