Merrimack
Quilt

We're pleased to present an original quilt design created
especially fo MERRIMACK
by Mary Walter for the NEQM. "Merrimack Millwheels"
features a fat quarter bundle of the collection designed by
Judie Rothermel and the New England Quilt Museum. Follow Mary's
print placement for this easy-to-sew block design, or create
your own pleasing arrangement.

You'll Need: |
1 fat
quarter bundle (32 fat 1/4's)
An additional 3/4 yd. N527-137D, F207- 142D, F208-142D,
N534-126D, N527-111D
An additional 3/4 yd. N535-113D for binding. |
Cuting Guide: |
 *Note:
Template "A" includes seam allowance
From fat quarter N534-114D cut 4 - 4 1/2" squares for
corner blocks in border and the rest into template "A"
Select 25 dark & medium fat quarters from bundle. From each
fat quarter, cut 2 - 2 1/2" x 11 1/2" strips and 2 -15
1/2"" strips for block sashing and 9 each of template
"A". From 2 remaining fat quarters cut 9 each of
template "A".
From each 3/4 yd. N527-137D, F207-142D, F208-142D, N534-126D,
N527-111D. Cut 5- 12 1/2" background blocks. From the same
fabrics in the fat quarter bundle cut 5 - 4 1/2" x 15
1/2" strips for pieced borders. |
Block Construction: |
- Sew 25 circular blocks from 8 template "A"
wedges. Appliqué to background blocks using freezer paper
method for smooth circles.
- Trim appliquéd blocks to 11/2'" squares. Add sashing,
cut from the 25 fat quarters.
- Arrange and sew into 5 rows of 5 blocks each.
- For each border piece 5 - 4 1/2" x 151/2" strips
(N527-137D, F207-142D, F208-142D, N534-126D, N527-111D for
borders adding (N534-114D) corner blocks.
- Quilt as desired. Bind with N35-113D.
