Make it with Marcus Fabrics
"Heartfelt" Signature Quilt

When one of our customer service managers, Mary Morrell, recently retired after many years with Marcus Fabrics, we commissioned "Heartfelt Thanks", a very special signature quilt by Donie Mason, featuring CHAMPAGNE GARDENS. We all loved the 3-dimensional design of the heart motifs, and we hope you enjoy it as well. (Before you begin, check out the expert tips provided by party quilt specialist Cathy Perlmutter in Creating with the Experts.)

YOU’LL NEED:
Quilter’s Solids #2174 Cream 2 yards
Inner border (red dot): 1/3 yards
Outer border (large floral): 1-1/8 yards

CUTTING GUIDE:
Cream Solid: Cut 10 - 6 ½" strips
Inner border: Cut 5 - 2" strips
Outer border: Cut 6 - 6 ½" strips

Block Assembly:
  1. For each block requires 1 - 6 ½" square, 3 - 3-½" squares, and 2 - 2" squares. Press one of the 3-½" squares in half diagonally, then fold and press on the diagonal again this marks the center point. Set aside. As shown below, place one of the 2" squares and one 3-½" squares on the 6 ½" square and seam on the diagonal. (Diagram # 1). Repeat this step on the opposite sides. Trim and press.

  1. Position the prairie points you pressed earlier to form the heart. Stitch them down, using just a 1/8” seam allowance to hold them in place. Make 60 hearts (56 for the center of the quilt and 4 for the second border).
Arrange hearts 7 across and 8 down.
  2. The quilt top should measure 42-½" wide by 48-½" long. Always measure your quilt top due to difference in 1/4" seam allowances and measure through the center of the top before cutting your strips for your borders. Add the first border to the top and bottom and then to the sides.
  3. Measure again and add the second border to the top and bottom then add the heart blocks to each end of the side borders and add to the quilt top. Quilt and bind as desired.
