Edelen Wille interprets vintage motifs for the young and the
young-at-heart, successfully bringing nostalgic charm into the
modern era for the home, garden, and baby. Owners and
sisters-in-law, Fran Edelen Clegg and Cheryl Wille Clegg, joined
forces to reproduce turn-of-the-century designs in the form of
framed artwork, nursery furnishings, cards, journals, calendars
and more.
Fran and Cheryl started their business by framing vintage
children's book illustrations from the early 20th century. They
found these treasures in used bookstores and flea markets in
Southern California. "It was like discovering a hidden
world," Fran says. "Most of the books we find are
literally falling apart, but between their pages are some of the
most beautiful and timeless images you could imagine."
Despite the "chaos" of raising a total of five young
children, Fran and Cheryl maintain a thriving business. "We
never tire of it (collecting the images), and there is always the
promise of finding another illustration from long ago that just
takes our breath away. We are so fortunate to have the opportunity
to give them new life, and to have another generation of children
(and parents, too) gazing at them once again," Cheryl says.
The duo's two-collection debut for Marcus include TRICKS &
TREATS, featuring colorful, nostalgic depictions of witches, owls
and cats with Halloween coordinating prints, and classic motifs of
A JOLLY CHRISTMAS, with its gleeful children, vintage toys, and
jolly Santa. With only eight prints in Tricks & Treats and
five prints in A Jolly Christmas, these small lines have a
collectible quality, and are designed to be used in their
entirety.
